Air Kerala is the new airline company in India. Backed up two Dubai-based businessmen Air Kerala is a regional airline in India that is going to operate out of two airports in the country. Air Kerala officials have formalised agreements with airports in Kannur, located in the Indian state of Kerala, and Mysuru, located in the state of Karnataka. Promoted as a India’s First Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier, It will exciting to see how this new carrier will compete with Big player. Air Kerala plans to operate as a low-cost carrier, initially focusing on domestic sectors to smaller Indian cities using  3 ATR72-600s before expanding into regional markets. For the international market, they are aiming to use narrow body aircraft.
International flights are part of the airline’s future goals, which would establish Kannur Airport as a major hub for connecting travelers to locations throughout the world. It has been reported that Air Kerala will initially focus on domestic destinations within a one-and-a-half-hour flying range from Kannur. Air Kerala received a no-objection certificate from the Civil Aviation Ministry in July and is in the process of obtaining a flying permit from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Air Kerala appointed C. S. Randhawa, a seasoned pilot with almost 50 years of experience, as Vice President of Operations. Former army officer and aviation security specialist Ashutosh Vashishth was named Vice President of Security. The airline hired Harish Kutty as its chief executive officer.

Zettfly ( Air Kerala) is initially targeting tier-2 and tier-3 airports across South and Central India to cater to Kerala’s domestic travellers connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, while also focusing on underserved tier-2 cities. As a part of expansions, they are looking up for the routes to the Middle East, including destinations such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar along with Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia

Air Kerala hasn’t announced any information about its carry-on and checked baggage policies.

Carry-on Baggage

Regarding its carry-on and checked baggage policies, Air Kerala has not made any announcements.

Airlines often let you bring a carry-on bag (H56 cm x W45 cm x D25 cm) plus a small personal item, such a briefcase, for free on long-haul flights. Some airlines charge for carry-ons on short-haul flights, while others give them away for free.

  • Carry-on baggage must fit in the overhead lockers and under the seat in front.
  • No prohibited items should be packed inside your carry-on baggage, including any liquids over 100ml.
  • Prohibited items found by airport security or by the immigration department upon arrival airport could be confiscated.

Checked Baggage

Air Kerala hasn’t announced any information about its checked baggage policies.

The ticket fare you bought will determine how much baggage you are allowed to bring. Many airlines charge you for a piece of checked baggage on domestic flights, which typically weighs between 24 and 32 kg. On international flights, however, you are likely to be allowed to bring one piece of checked baggage free of charge. Checked baggage cannot weigh over 32kg due to international health and safety regulations and it must not exceed the permitted size allowance.

For now, there are seven domestic airlines operating in India. Mostly big players who does regular international flights are using their big aircraft in the domestic sectors. Some of them are using ATR and Dash aircraft too. Here is the list of airlines in India: AirAsia India, Air India, Air India Express, Go First, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Vistara.
