The Rara Lake is the biggest lake in the Nepal which is situated in the Rara National Park at the height of 2,990 m (9,810 ft) above sea level. Rara Lake (Rara National Park) is also home to several rare and protected species like Himalayan black bear, leopards, ghorals, thar and the rare red panda. The route to the lake is very much ‘off the beaten track’ and is ideal for trekking. If you are looking for the peaceful trekking route with less tourist traffic, then Rara Lake trekking can be your best choice.
Despite of being crowded, Annapurna circuit trekking is one of the most popular trekking route in the World which is relatively easier to trek. This trekking route includes (Sideways trek) Tilcho Lake which is situated at highest altitude. Tilicho Lake is situated at an altitude of 4,919 metres (16,138 ft) below the northern slopes of Mt. Annapurna. Trek to Tilicho lake is considered as a tough one as you need to pass through various uphill routes along with landslides too.
Gosaikunda is an alpine freshwater lake situated near to Kathmandu. Gosaikunda which is situated Langtang National Park is located at an altitude of 4,380 m. Gosaikunda is famous for its religious importance. Interestingly, There are 108 lakes in this area.
Gosaikunda remains frozen in winter (October to June).
Gokyo Lake trekking gives an alternative to the traditional Everest base camp trekking. Gokyo Lakes comprising six main lakes is located at an altitude of 4,700–5,000 m above sea level. Gokyo Cho, also called Dudh Pokhari, is the main lake. Thonak Cho is the largest lake along with Gyazumpa Cho, Tanjung Cho and Ngojumba Cho lake.
Phoksundo Lake is also yet another scenic and beautiful lake situated in Shey Phoksundo National Park. It is located at 3611.5 m above sea level. This lake has also been featured on famous movie “Caravan” by the renowned director Eric Valli.
